Run for Cover!

Today on my morning walk, a bunny ran across my path. The little bunny was small and sweet with a cottontail. She darted for cover when she saw a threat headed her way. She hid under a small car parked on the side of the road. I stopped to take in the site and heard the Lord say, "You are like the bunny. If you run to me, I will hide you and protect you from all attacks. I am your cover."

Then, the bunny darted out from underneath the car and into a nearby bush. The Lord continued, "Like the bunny, sometimes you run to other things to protect you. I had you covered, if you could only be still."

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
- Psalm 91:1-2, 9-10

What is your cover? Where do you go when you are under attack? Where is your protection?

So, the question is, can we trust God to be our cover? Can we trust God to be our shelter? If the answer is, "Yes," why do we leave his covering and try another shelter? We take matters into our own hands and move to a "more secure" place. But, when we left the Lord's shelter did it help?

How do you stay in the shelter of the Most High? It's hard to stay in the shelter if you move away from God. So, your nearness to God is an important factor in staying covered. Drawing near him and staying near Him all day every day is your best protection from the enemy.

It's like the kid who is getting bullied at recess. If he runs and stands by the teacher, he is protected.  The bully will not hurt him when he is next to the teacher. But, as soon as he runs to the swings, the bully will be right on his tail. STAY NEXT TO THE TEACHER!

Let God fight the battles for you. Do you see how you will save yourself injury and extra fights just by staying near the Lord? Spend time in His presence. Meet with Him in prayer. Rejoice before Him in Worship. Dive deep into His Word and let it marinate your soul. Linger with Him as you come and as you God. When the Spirit of God is ever-present and with you, the enemy is powerless against you.

The bunny has no weapons. It has no defense. Its only hope is to run quickly and hide. At least we have spiritual weapons of warfare. But, you will quickly tire of fighting if you stay in the open, exposed, and vulnerable to attack. Be wise, seek the shelter of the Most High. He is your ever-present place
of refuge.
